Who can buy RWA? Is there an investor-eligibility threshold?
Most RWA products are not open to everyone. Public-fund-like products such as tokenized treasuries and money-market funds may be offered to retail investors in some jurisdictions, while tokenized securities, private credit and private-fund interests are almost always restricted to professional or accredited investors, with transfer restrictions enforced by whitelist contracts. Hong Kong China uses the "professional investor" concept under the SFO, the US uses "accredited investor" under exemptions such as Reg D / Reg S, and Singapore applies accredited / institutional investor categories. The test is not on the marketing page but in the selling restrictions of the offering documents and the local definition. Nearly all compliant products also run KYC/AML and sanctions screening, with wallet addresses whitelisted.
Evidence and detail
- Read the "selling restrictions" clause in the offering documents, not whether the platform lets you click "buy".
- A whitelist contract is direct evidence of restriction: if you cannot transfer out, you most likely hold a restricted interest.
- The same product has different eligible buyers across jurisdictions; cross-border distribution is not local compliance.
